Personality:

On the outside, Saki Mikajima looks like a normal, quiet Japanese teenage girl who lives a rather normal life. She often wears a kind face and carries a warm smile that some people can find odd or eerie, which masks a lot of her past and the flaws that she possesses. It is simple to start up a conversation with her although there are times she can come off as a little odd with her words and her bluntness.

Now, it has been suggested that she has come from an abusive background and that would explain her way of thinking as well as Izaya Orihara becoming her guardian. She idolizes Izaya to nearly a god-like status and would do anything he asked seeing that he is the one who looked after her when her parents did not. Saki has been willing to allow herself to be tortured and have her legs broken, then pretend that she could not walk all because he had asked her to do so. She once claimed that if he told her to die, she would do it as well.

Saki is a very trusting person and would accept someone for who they are, good or bad. She would make no attempts to change them. She is not the type to judge or dislike someone so easily -- in fact Saki doesn't exactly 'dislike' people. She has yet to come across someone whom she doesn't get along with. People will think she is naive and silly for being like that, but she cares little about what others think about her and doesn't see any issues with her way of thinking.

Along with trust, Saki has a lot of faith in people. This is shown with Izaya and Kida Masaomi. She had so much faith in Kida that she believed that no matter how many women he flirted with, he would still love her. Her relations with the two do hint that she has a slight dependency issue (at the least in regards to Izaya). If it had not been for Kida, Saki would most likely still be blindly following Izaya and not left Ikebukuro with Kida (even though the pair did come to work with him.)

Surprisingly, even after everything Izaya put her through, she did not hold a grudge against him or any resentment towards him. In fact she still thinks of him highly and is grateful that he brought someone important into her life. At one point however, she did betray him once she realized that her feelings for her boyfriend were true. So while Saki is a very loyal person, this shows that depending on the circumstances, her loyalty can also be limited.

One of Saki's unique personality traits is how she can be quite blunt and say some odd things here and there. A perfect example of this is when she talked about the situation with Masaomi working for a man he doesn't like. She flat out explained that it is strange that he hates his guts yet still worked for him without bothering to try sugar coating it. While others might be hesitant or feel awkward to say when it comes to they feel or what they are thinking, Saki does not feel that and will say what is on her mind. Basically, if there's an elephant in the room then you can count on her to be the first person to stand up to address it. The fact she can talk about a serious issue and keep a smile can cause people to find her odd; such as when she responded to Masaomi when he asked if they were together or not and when the pair talked on the train and Saki responded that it went so straight.

Tied in with this is her honesty and trust of others. Her relations with someone do not matter if they are a good or bad person. She doesn't hold grudges or come to dislike people. A very good example of this is one man; Izaya Orihara. Saki has openly expressed when she looked up to Izaya, she looked up to him as if he is a god and would do anything he says, no matter how bad and awful he is. He is the reason that she allowed herself to be kidnapped, beaten up and having bones broken. Despite all of that though, Saki did not show any dislike towards him and remained content. Izaya had caused a lot of pain to someone she loves and again, Saki doesn't feel any negative emotion towards him. This isn't to say that a person could do anything and she wouldn't disapprove, but she would not judge them for their actions or hold or against them. She accepts people for who they are.

There are times where Saki can be good at picking up what a person feels and reading them even when they themselves don't fully understand or accept their current emotions. This causes her to point them out to the person and will be adamant if they attempt to deny it. She is also aware of where her place should be when it comes to people and just how much she can do. When she and Masaomi were away, Saki took notice of when he got lonely and explained to him that while she could be a lover, she wouldn't be able to be his friend. Saki didn't display any sadness about not being able to be his friend at the same time as his lover, because she aware that there are other people who need to fill that position. If she knows the person well enough, she will be sure to push them to follow their heart and do what they feel is right.
